Tricopigmentation (Scalp)

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) — also searched as scalp tattoo, hair tattoo, tricopigmentation or hair-loss tattoo — places fine dots of pigment in the upper scalp to create the appearance of fuller, denser hair. It works for thinning hair, receding hairlines, transplant scarring, and pattern hair loss in both men and women.

Treatment time 2–4 hours per session
Sessions 2–3, built up

About scalp micropigmentation

SMP places tiny, precise dots of pigment in the upper layer of the scalp to replicate the look of hair follicles. It doesn't grow hair — it restores the visual appearance of density. For clients with thinning hair, the dots fill the gaps so the scalp doesn't show through. For shaved-head clients, they replicate the look of a closely shaved stubble. It's precise, patient work, built up over 2–3 sessions.

Who it's for

  • Male or female pattern hair loss.
  • Thinning crown or temples where the scalp shows through.
  • Receding hairlines wanting a softer, denser-looking front — see thinning hairline.
  • Hair-transplant scarring (FUE or strip-method) that needs disguising.
  • Alopecia areata patches.
  • Anyone who has accepted hair loss and wants the cleanest possible visual result.

Natural, restrained placement

Done well, SMP is undetectable at conversational distance. The dots are matched to the density and tone of natural follicles, so the eye reads them as real hair or stubble. Lorraine's training is in restrained, natural-looking placement and bespoke colour-matching — pigment is mixed to your specific skin tone and natural hair colour, never off a shelf.

What to expect

  1. Consultation and design

Lorraine assesses your hair loss, scalp and skin tone, and designs a hairline and density that suits your face and looks natural for your age. She's honest about what SMP can and can't do, and there's no pressure to book.

  2. Building the result (2–3 sessions)

SMP is built up across typically 2–3 sessions spaced several weeks apart, layering density gradually. Each session runs around 2–4 hours depending on the area treated.

  3. Healing between sessions

The scalp may look slightly pink and the dots darker for a few days, softening as it settles. Simple aftercare (avoiding sweat, sun and swimming for a few days) protects the result; full written guidance is provided.

  4. Long-term maintenance

Results typically last 3–5 years before the colour softens enough to consider a refresh. The fade is gradual and even. Each session is booked and paid on its own.

FAQs

Questions about Tricopigmentation (Scalp)

Will it grow my hair back?

No. Scalp micropigmentation creates the visual appearance of hair density but does not stimulate hair growth. It works with whatever hair you have to give the look of fuller coverage.

Will it look fake or obvious?

Done well, no. The dots are placed at the same density and tone as natural follicles, so from normal viewing distance the eye reads it as real stubble or natural density. Lorraine's training is in restrained, natural placement.

Will it suit my skin tone?

Yes — pigment colour is bespoke-mixed to your specific skin tone and natural hair colour. Lorraine discusses this in detail at consultation.

How long does it last?

Typically 3–5 years before the colour softens enough to consider a refresh. The fade is gradual and even.

How much does it cost?

Pricing is provided on consultation, because it depends heavily on the coverage area — a small temple or hairline restoration is very different from full-crown coverage. Each session is booked and paid on its own. The consultation is the easiest way to get a clear answer for your case.
